Kozak to lead Chewning Middle School

DURHAM--Richard Kozak, Assistant Principal of Rogers-Herr Middle School, has been appointed Principal of Chewning Middle School, effective July 1, 2002. He will replace Charles Burns, who has accepted a position in Guilford County Schools.
Kozak has served as assistant principal of Rogers-Herr since November 2001. He had previously served as an assistant principal in Orange County Schools for one year and in Wake County Schools for two years. In the mid-1990s he was a program specialist for exceptional children’s programs in Alamance County Schools. He taught at the elementary and middle school levels in Alamance and in the northeast for five years, and was an instructor at the college level, as well.
"I look forward to working with the Chewning Middle School students, staff, and community to ensure that all students receive an outstanding education in both the traditional and year-round programs," said Kozak. "We will continue to strive as a community to create a school where students are valued and nurtured to achieve their highest potential." Kozak holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was in the Principal Fellows’ Program. He also holds a master’s degree in educational psychology and statistics a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from State University of New York at Albany.
