Key will lead Riverside High School

June 1, 2004 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Rodney Nelson, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resource Services 560-2353 Key will lead Riverside High School DURHAM—James F. Key II has been named principal of Riverside High School. The Carrington Middle School principal will replace Patrick Rhodes, who has been named Executive Director of High Schools for Durham Public Schools. Key is a 20-year veteran of Durham Public Schools. He has been Carrington’ s principal for three years, and was principal of Eno Valley Elementary School for three years prior. He previously served as assistant principal at Carrington and assistant to the principal at Riverside High School. He has also taught at Carrington, as well as Chewning Middle School and both Riverside and Northern high schools. He was Teacher of the Year at Riverside in 1994. In addition to teaching and administration, Key has coached wrestling, lacrosse, football, track and field, and volleyball. He also served as an Executive Officer in the United States Army Reserves. “Although I will greatly miss the students, teachers and families of Carrington, going back to Riverside High School will be like a homecoming for me; I have enjoyed a wonderful affiliation with the school and its community over the years,” said Key. “I very much look forward to working with parents, students and teachers to build on the school’s many successes.” Key holds a master’s degree in school administration and a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is also an Honor Graduate of the Ordnance Officer’s Basic Course and a graduate of Officer’s Candidate School. “Jim Key is a proven leader with a strong instructional background,” said Superintendent Ann T. Denlinger. “He is a perfect fit to lead Riverside High School, and I am confident that he will work wonderfully well with the students, teachers, parents and community supporters of Riverside.” ###
