Four new principals named for 2010-11 school year

DURHAM—The Durham Public Schools Board of Education has approved the appointment of four new principals.
They are:
Riverside High School: Jackie Tobias, Assistant Principal of Lexington High School in Lexington City Schools since 2006. She replaces Jim Key, who is now leading Chewning Middle School.
Tobias was a school counselor at Thomasville High School for three years and T.W. Andrews High School in High Point for eight years prior to going to Lexington.
Tobias holds a Master of Education degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, as well as a Masters in Education, certification as a Specialist in Education and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida. She earned National Board Certification in 2005.Bethesda Elementary School: Shaneeka Moore-Lawrence, Assistant Principal of Eastlawn Elementary in Burlington NC since 2007. She replaces Doris Walker, who retired.
Moore-Lawrence served as an administrative intern in 2006 and taught elementary school in Durham where she is currently an English composition instructor.
Moore-Lawrence holds a Master of Arts degree in School Administration from North Carolina Central University. She also holds an Educational Specialist degree and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she is currently pursuing her Doctorate.R.N. Harris Magnet Elementary School: Carolyn Pugh, Assistant Principal of R.N. Harris since 2006.
She replaces Barbara Parker who is now leading Spring Valley Elementary School. Pugh served as the lead teacher at R.N. Harris for two years prior to becoming an assistant principal.
She has taught at the school for a total of 20 years. Pugh holds a Masters Degree in School Administration and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from North Carolina Central University.Merrick-Moore Elementary School: Lakisha Gates Rice, Principal of SandHoke Early College High School since 2006. She is the Hoke County Principal of the Year. She replaces Gregory McKnight. Rice was an assistant principal Hoke County and an assistant principal intern in Cleveland County prior to her principalship.
She taught elementary school in Hoke County for 16 years. Rice holds a Masters degree in School Administration from Fayetteville State University where she is currently a Doctorate in Educational Leadership Candidate.
