DURHAM--Takeisha M. Ford, a Principal in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, has been named Principal of Burton GeoWorld Elementary Magnet School. She replaces Philip Holmes, who accepted a position in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools.

Ford has been Principal of McDougle Elementary School in Chapel Hill for the last year, but received a great deal of her educational experience in Durham Public Schools.  She was an Assistant Principal at Holt Elementary School for one year and at Lakewood Elementary School for the preceding three years.

Ford also taught at Hope Valley Elementary School for one year, and was a teacher in Vance County Schools for five years.

"I am so excited to be returning to Durham Public Schools.  DPS is at the forefront in providing quality education for all students," said Ford. "I look forward to working with the Burton faculty, students, parents, and community.  I am dedicated to continuing the work to establish an excellent Primary Years Program of the International Baccalaureate that will allow our students to discover their inner talents, pursue their goals, and to succeed."

Ford holds a master’s degree in school administration and a bachelor's degree in elementary education from North Carolina Central University, along with a bachelor's degree in speech communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

"Takeisha Ford brings years of solid elementary education experience to her role as Principal of Burton Elementary School," said Superintendent Carl E. Harris. "She will work very well in continuing the development and implementation of innovative programs – including the implementation of IB – as she works with the students, teachers and parents of Burton to increase student achievement."
