DURHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO HOST LATINO PARENT INFORMATION SESSION

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Durham, NC – Durham Public Schools will host an information session for parents of Latino students Sunday, October 16 from 3-4:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 716 Burch Ave.

The session, in collaboration with Durham Congregations Associations Neighborhoods (Durham CAN), is part of the school district’s commitment to assuring the best possible educational experience for Latino students, whose parents often face language or cultural understanding challenges.

Information provided for parents will include topics such as:

  • How to access an interpreter for conferences, meetings and questions.
  • What to expect from Durham Public Schools regarding interpreter and translator services.
  • DPS policies and procedures to help and support your children.
  • New, improved procedures to help Latino parents.


Participants in the session will have an opportunity to meet the staff of the English as a Second Language Resource Center. Spokespersons will be available afterward for interviews.
