Durham, NC – Southern High School’s Tracy Bell is one example of a teacher implementing innovative technology strategies to help students develop a passion for reading. Her students are using Animoto to create video trailers promoting books they are reading and recommending to classmates.
Many other teachers and students will exhibit exciting tech-savvy strategies for teaching and learning at the 2010-2011 DPS Technology Showcase, presented by Durham Public Schools and Duke University Libraries' Pepsico K-12 Technology Mentor Program.
The event will take place on Monday, March 21 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the DPS Staff Development Center. The Showcase is held in an open house/fair format and exhibits the outstanding work being done in DPS classrooms with technology. All DPS teachers and students are eligible to present and attend.
“This event really stimulates creativity,” said Superintendent Eric Becoats. “We start by putting a collection of our best thinkers in the same room. Then we add in some of our most creative teaching strategies – and amazing things happen!”
Topics include: classroom collaboration using Google Apps, iPads in the classroom, Google Earth, interactive whiteboards, stop motion animation, blogging, podcasting, wikis, music technology, e-books, game development and education, student engineering, Alice programming, and much more!
