Durham Public Schools names three principals
Durham, NC – Durham Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of three new principals at Monday’s Board of Education meeting.
Jerome Leathers was named Principal at Jordan High. He is currently employed as an assistant principal at Hillside High, where he has worked since 2008. Prior to that, Leathers served two administrative internships, one at Hillside and one at Riverside High. He also spent 12 years as a high school math teacher, including seven years at Jordan High where he was the school’s 2006 Teacher of the Year. Leathers earned both his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and his Master’s Degree in School Administration from North Carolina Central University.
Teresa James was named Principal at Club Boulevard Elementary. She is currently serving as an assistant principal at Fuquay-Varina High in Wake County, where she has worked since 2007. James also spent 11 years as an elementary teacher at Cary Elementary in Wake County and two elementary schools in Florida. She was the 2004 Teacher of the Year for Belleview-Santos Elementary in Belleview, Florida. James earned her Bachelor of Science from Florida State University and her Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
Kia Eason was named Principal at Merrick-Moore Elementary. Currently, she is working with Durham Public Schools as a Title 1 School Improvement Specialist, where she has been employed since 2008. Eason also served as an assistant principal at George Watts Montessori Magnet School from 2006-2008. She worked as a teacher for seven years at Merrick-Moore Elementary, where she was the school’s Teacher of the Year, and three years in Newport News, Virginia. Eason earned her Bachelor of Arts from North Carolina Central University and her Master of School Administration from Cambridge College in Chesapeake, Virginia.
