Durham Public Schools names new leadership for C.C. Spaulding Elementary, W.G. Pearson Elementary and Neal Middle

Durham, NC – Durham Public Schools is pleased to announce leadership appointments at three schools. All will begin work on July 1.

Kecia Rogers has been named Principal of C.C. Spaulding Elementary. Having served as Principal of W.G. Pearson Elementary since 2009, Ms. Rogers was also an assistant principal at Carrington Middle School and an assistant principal intern at Pearsontown Year-Round Elementary School. She also taught for 10 years at Southwest Elementary School. Ms. Rogers earned her bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees at North Carolina Central University where she also served for nine years as a distant learning instructor and on-line course developer.

Susan Wells is the new Principal of W.G. Pearson Elementary. Most recently, Ms. Wells has been principal at Grey Culbreth Middle School and in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. She was also principal at Ephesus Elementary School from 2004-2007. Prior to that, she served in the Alamance-Burlington School System as an assistant principal for three years, a program specialist for four years and a crisis program coordinator for one year. Ms. Wells also taught for 10 years and has experience with 1:1 technology integration. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and her master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Lynne Goodhand has been named Co-Principal at W.G. Pearson Elementary. Ms. Goodhand has been an assistant principal at Grey Culbreth Middle School in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools since 2003 and for one year prior at Holt Elementary. She also served as a principal intern at Riverside High from 2001-2002. Ms. Goodhand has taught at schools in Durham, Rhode Island and Ohio and has experience in 1:1 technology integration. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Hiram College (Ohio) and a master’s degree from Brown University and another from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Melissa Hall will be Principal of Neal Middle School. She has been principal at Montlieu Elementary School in Guilford County Schools since 2009 and at Sternberger Elementary School from 2008-2009. She was an assistant principal from 2007-2008. Ms. Hall also served as an administrative intern for one year. She is a National Board Certified Teacher of Mathematics with 12 years of teaching experience. Ms. Hall earned her bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University and her master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
