Durham Public Schools Names Assistant Superintendent and Middle School PrincipalOffice of Human Resources and Rogers-Herr Middle get new leaders

Durham, NC – Durham Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of two new administrators. The Board of Education approved the hires at their meeting on Thursday, September 22.
Dr. Tina Hester was named Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. She is a former DPS teacher, principal, Dropout Prevention Coordinator and Coordinator for Elementary Employment. Hester has also served in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools as an assistant principal, Coordinator of early Childhood/Elementary Instruction, Director of Elementary Instruction/Staff Development and in Guilford County Schools as Executive Director for Student Services, Area Superintendent and Executive Director of Curriculum Development. Most recently, Hester served from 2006 until present with Chatham County Schools as Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, her Master’s degree from North Carolina Central University and her Doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Michael Fuga was named Principal of Rogers-Herr Middle School. Fuga has served as an assistant principal at Southern High since 2009. He also served as a principal intern at the same school. In 2008, Fuga served as an administrative intern at Rogers-Herr. He has also worked as a Social Studies teacher at Neal Middle and in Pennsylvania. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at Washington & Jefferson College, his Master’s degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is expected to graduate in 2014 with his Doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
