DPS to Host Technology Showcase

February 25, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT: Stacey Wilson-Norman, Assistant Superintendent Elementary Curriculum and Instruction, 560-3718

DURHAM—Parents and community members will be amazed to see the high level of infusion of technology into classroom studies at the Durham Public Schools Educational Technology Showcase on March 8 at the DPS Staff Development Center.

The event is an open-style showcase that gives DPS teachers and students the opportunity to exhibit their hard work and effective technology projects to the Durham community. The presentations will display effective teaching of the curriculum with technology as a tool. Short 15-minute workshops will also be conducted for more detailed explanations of some projects.

About 40 teachers and 100 students will be sharing their innovation and creativity. Some project examples include audio documentaries, podcasts, Web programming, new media, Adobe design, Web 2.0, multimedia, videos and much more.

The Technology Showcase is a fantastic opportunity to witness how technology enhances classroom learning in DPS. It also is a great way for teachers and students to share effective technology-based learning with each other as well as with the broader community.

The showcase is open for anyone to attend, and there will be door prizes for presenters and attendees.  Prizes include an iPod Nano, a Flip Camera, a $250 gift certificate to Pearson’s Publishing’s educational catalog, a Promethean Activslate, educational software and more.

The event will be held at the DPS Staff Development Center on Hillandale Road on Monday, March 8 from 5-6:30 pm. For more information on technology in Durham schools, please visit DPS’ Educational Technology Web site, http://edutech.dpsnc.net.
