DPS announces winner of Get Involved! Award

Creekside Elementary volunteer is recognized for campus improvement projects
Durham, NC – As part of National Volunteer Week, April 11-15, Melissa Rooney, a volunteer at Creekside Elementary, has been named DPS’ first winner of the Get Involved! Award. Ms. Rooney was recognized today at the Superintendent’s monthly media briefing at Creekside Elementary. Dr. Becoats presented her with a plaque and certificate. The district received 24 nominations for the award from school staff and community members.
Ms. Rooney was nominated by the school’s PTA president and support staff. She was noted for the countless hours she spends at the school assisting teachers and students with various projects. Ms. Rooney has also been recognized for creating and implementing projects to spruce up the campus.
In addition, Ms. Rooney was instrumental in getting a 1000-gallon cistern installed to eliminate a drainage issue at the school. She also worked to get the school’s track and field reseeded. In addition, Ms. Rooney serves as chair of the grants committee at Creekside Elementary.
