DURHAM—Cheryl Fuller has been named Principal of E.K. Powe Elementary School. She comes to Durham Public Schools from Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, where she has served as principal at Ephesus Elementary School since 2001.
For the previous five years, Fuller was an elementary school principal in Beaufort, SC and Phoenix, NY. She also was an assistant principal and boasts a decade of classroom experience.
“I am very much looking forward to the opportunity to join E.K. Powe as a member of their team. I look forward to meeting the needs of all the children in that community,” said Fuller. “I am also highly confident in the talent of the professionals who are working there for the children.”
Fuller holds two Master’s degrees – one in Educational Leadership, the other in Guidance and Counseling – from the University of North Florida, and a bachelor’s degree in education and child development from the University of Maine.
“The E.K. Powe Elementary School students, teachers, parents and community supporters will find a seasoned and dedicated leader in Cheryl Fuller,” said Superintendent Ann T. Denlinger. “She is extremely well prepared to take the helm at Powe and to provide strong leadership in the pursuit of Durham Public Schools’ dual goals of having at least 95 percent of third-graders reading proficiently and closing the Achievement Gap.”
