Copeland is new Club Boulevard Elementary School principal

DURHAM - Micah A. Copeland, Assistant Principal of Chewning Middle School, has been named Principal of Club Boulevard Humanities Magnet Elementary School. He replaces retired Durham Public Schools Principal Ed Forsythe, who served as the school’s Interim Principal this school year. Copeland has served in his current position at Chewning since 2003. Before that he was at Club Boulevard for five years, serving as an Administrative Intern and as a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher. While at Club Boulevard, Copeland held several leadership positions, including fourth- and fifth-grade representative, Aesthetics Team study group leader and operations chairperson. He was the school’s representative to the Elementary Education Committee of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. “Returning to Club Boulevard Elementary School is an exciting and welcome opportunity for me,” said Copeland. “I spent five years there, building strong relationships with parents, students, teachers and Club supporters and am very much looking forward to expanding upon the great things that have been happening for the students and the community.” Copeland holds a master’s degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he also earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and American Studies. “Micah Copeland is a strong leader who will provide the Club Boulevard Elementary School students, teachers, parents and community with a very smooth transition,” said Superintendent Ann T. Denlinger. “He is extremely well prepared to take the school’s helm, and we have no doubt that the Club Boulevard students and staff members will continue to thrive under his direction.” ###
