Chapel Hill principal to assume HR lead role in DPS

DURHAM—Jacqueline B. Ellis, Principal of Chapel Hill High School in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools district, has been named Assistant Superintendent of Human Resource Services for Durham Public Schools.  She replaces Brenda Jones, who is retiring after three years in this role.

Ellis has been principal of Chapel Hill High since 2007.  Before that she served briefly as Director of Middle School Programs for the Wake County Public School System.  She was principal of Grey Culbreth Middle School in the Chapel-Carrboro district for four years.

Prior to her years of service in Chapel Hill, Ellis served for three years as assistant principal at Riverside High School.  Before that she taught in several school systems in North Carolina for a number of years.

She was Principal of the Year for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro district for the 2004-05 school year.

Ellis holds a master’s degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education from East Carolina University.

“Jackie Ellis is a proven leader who will bring her wealth of expertise in overseeing personnel to her position as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resource Services,” said Superintendent Carl Harris. “We very much look forward to an increasingly effective and efficient HR department that will recruit and retain the best teachers and serve all of our employees well.”
