Chapel Hill administrator to lead new Holton Career Center

DURHAM—Gloria J. Woods-Weeks, the state award-winning Assistant Principal of East Chapel Hill High School in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, has been named Principal of the new Holton Career Center, slated to open in August 2009.

Woods-Weeks has been assistant principal at East Chapel Hill High since 2004.  Before that she was a teacher at Rogers-Herr Middle School for several years.

She holds two master’s degrees – one in public administration from North Carolina Central University and the other in school administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from NCCU.

Woods-Weeks was recently named the North Carolina Assistant Principal of the Year for 2009.

The Holton Career Center is a partnership among Durham Public Schools and the City and County of Durham. Renovation of the old Holton Middle School on Driver Street is under way in preparation to house the Center.

The Center will offer industry training for students, even industry certification.   Students will take core classes at their base high schools in the morning and career training at Holton in the afternoon and early evening.  Barbering, construction, technology, landscape management and more classes will be offered.

“Gloria Woods-Weeks brings solid experience as an educator and administrator to her role as the new principal of Holton Career Center,” said Superintendent Carl Harris. “She is certain to work with Holton students, families and community partners to ensure that this wonderful new program has a successful start.”
