Carolina Panthers to award Riverside High School with $75,000 “High School Weight Room Makeover”

Four high schools in the Carolinas awarded “Weight Room Makeovers” as part of Panthers $250,000 equipment grant program

Charlotte – A $75,000 “High School Weight Room Makeover” grant from the Carolina Panthers will be delivered to Riverside High School at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2011. A check presentation will happen with Panthers and Riverside staff during halftime of their game on Friday October 7. The donation is part of $250,000 in weight training equipment which the team is donating to high schools in the Carolinas through a special grant program. Equipment for the grant program is comprised of the actual weight training equipment that was previously used by the Carolina Panthers for the team’s strength and conditioning program.

Location: Riverside High School Football Stadium

Time: Halftime

High schools in North and South Carolina had the opportunity to apply for one of four weight room packages. The donated equipment includes core weight training staples such as bench presses, squat racks and plates, as well as specialized equipment used by the Panthers. Approximately 70 schools applied for the grant program. The selection process was based on a variety of factors including current state of the school’s football program, community involvement, funding sources, demonstrated equipment need and other criteria.

The following schools were selected as the Carolina Panthers High School Weight Room Makeover recipients:

Olympic High School/ Charlotte, NC Riverside High School/ Durham, NC Scott’s Branch High School/ Summerton, SC Riverside High School/ Norwood, NC

Equipment deliveries for Riverside, Scott’s Branch, Olympic and South Stanley High Schools will take place during the month of October.

“The Carolina Panthers are thrilled to offer this tremendous opportunity to schools, especially when the need for resources are at a premium, but adequate funding may be a challenge,” said Peter Vacho, Carolina Panthers Youth/Prep Football & Military Outreach Manager. “It is exciting to know that this equipment will make a significant impact in serving student-athletes in our region.”
