DURHAM—Kecia L. Rogers, Assistant Principal of Carrington Middle School, has been named the Principal of W.G. Pearson Elementary Magnet School. She replaces Sandy Chambers, who has accepted a position in the Wake County Public School System.
Rogers has been assistant principal at Carrington for two years. She performed her principal internship at Pearsontown Elementary School. She was a teacher at Southwest Elementary School for 11 years.
“I am truly excited about joining the W.G. Pearson family and building upon the successes of the past while striving for excellence for every learner today and in the future,” said Rogers. “I am confident together we will ensure our students reach their maximum potential while soaring to new heights of excellence as a school family.”
Rogers holds two master’s degrees – one in elementary education and one in school administration – from North Carolina Central University, where she also received her bachelor’s in elementary education.
“Kecia Rogers is a seasoned educator with both classroom and school administration experience,” said Superintendent Carl Harris. “I am convinced that the enthusiasm, energy and support for innovation she brings with her will serve the Pearson students, teachers, staff and parents very well.”
