Board Outlines Opportunities for Input into Superintendent Search

DURHAM--At a meeting on December 10, members of the Board of Education agreed on a plan to receive input into the leadership qualities for the next Superintendent of Durham Public Schools. DPS will work with the NC School Boards Association, the group that is conducting the search, to seek input into the profile that staff, parents and community members would like to see in the new Superintendent.
There are five primary avenues for offering input:
- Online Community Survey: Visit www.dpsnc.net and click on the link to Superintendent Search on the homepage and complete the online survey (available in English and Spanish). The survey will be online from December 15 through January 21.
- Online Staff Survey: DPS staff members will receive a separate staff survey by email.
- Printed Surveys: Printed copies of the survey in English and Spanish are available in all school offices, at all branches of the Durham County Public Library or call 919-560-3652 and a survey will be mailed to you. These surveys must be returned by January 21.
- Statements from Groups/Organizations: Groups or organizations that would like to submit statements regarding the leadership qualities that they consider important in the next Superintendent can submit these statements to Allison Schafer at the NC School Boards Association, P O Box 97877, Raleigh, NC 27624-7877. The NCSBA fax number is 919-841-4020. These statements must be received by January 21.
- Public Comments: Individuals who would like to comment on the leadership qualities for the next Superintendent are invited to attend a Public Hearing that the Board of Education will hold as a part of its Thursday, January 28 meeting. The meeting will be held at 6:30 pm at the Fuller Building, 511 Cleveland Street. Speakers must sign up immediately prior to the meeting.
