Jordan High School senior wins full scholarship to Air Force Academy

United States Air Force Academy. Acceptance into the prestigious Academy includes full tuition and additional expenses, a total of more than $250,000. The Academy appoints only approximately 1,200 students nationwide each year, out of more than 12,000 applications. Kevin plans to graduate from the Academy in four years, at which point he would be a fully commissioned officer of the U.S. Air Force. As part of his tuition, he will serve in the Air Force for at least five years after graduation. He hopes to become a licensed pilot. “I’m really excited because I have wanted to be a pilot for my whole life,” said Kevin. “It will definitely be a lifestyle adjustment, but I’m really looking forward to it.” Kevin was an offensive lineman for Jordan varsity football team. He is also a member of the school’s Math Club, for which he helped achieve a number of victories at various competitions, and of the Rocket Club, which placed third nationally out of 700 entries in the Team America Rocketry Challenge. Perhaps one of Kevin’s most notable accomplishments is as a founding board member of the Brian Clemens Memorial Golf Tournament. The annual event raises funds for the Interfaith Council for Community Service. Kevin was recommended to the Academy by Congressional nomination letters, both from former Sen. John Edwards and Congressman David Price. ###
