Youth Business and Entrepreneurship Academy

DPS Students Receive Business Training at NCCU

The North Carolina Central University School of Business is hosting the 2012 Summer Youth Business & Entrepreneurship Academy this summer for local high-achieving high school students interested in the field of business and entrepreneurship. The Academy is presented by the Make It Happen Foundation (founded by Kevin Liles, former CEO of Def Jam Records), inspired by Duke University’s LEAD (Leadership Education and Development) Program, and sponsored by the Durham Chamber of Commerce and the Durham Public School System.

The two-week session includes classroom instruction, site visits to local companies and culminates with the students developing and presenting a business plan to a panel of judges consisting of business leaders within our community.  We have selected 16 high-achieving rising 10th and 11th grade students from Durham and surrounding counties to attend. The average GPA of participants is 3.92 (out of 4.0).

Each student submitted an application to attend, complete with an essay, and has been awarded a scholarship that covers the cost of attendance, plus materials, courtesy of our founding sponsor, Genworth Financial.

The Academy will run from July 23 – August 3, 2012.
