Winning the Battle – of the Books!

Winning the Battle – of the Books!

These Pearsontown Elementary students are all smiles, and for good reason.  They won the 2009 DPS Elementary Battle of the Books on May 5.

Battle of the Books is a quiz-show style contest where students are asked random questions from a list of 12 books they have read over the course of the last year.  There was a tie between Pearsontown and Club Boulevard Elementary, but the Pandas took it in the tie-breaker round.  Mangum Elementary came in third.

This is the third year for the Elementary Battle of the Books – a creative and fun way to get young people motivated to read.

Look for information in the coming weeks on our Website about DPS’s partnership with the Durham County Library – the Summer Reading program – to find out ways to keep your child interested in reading this summer.
