Students and teachers are gearing up for a great new year!

Thursday, August 25 marks the beginning of a new and exciting school year. Over 32,000 students will walk through the doors of the 54 DPS campuses – longing to see old friends and eager to meet their new teachers.

For some students, the new school year is exactly the challenge they have been waiting for all summer. For others, it is an opportunity for a fresh start.

Likewise, DPS staff members have been busy planning lessons, preparing classrooms, ordering supplies, contacting parents and going through their back-to-school checklists.

Rod Teal, Principal of Fayetteville Street Elementary, is very much looking forward to the arrival of students.

“We have worked hard this summer preparing innovative teaching and learning,” said Teal. “Now all we need are the students. Bring them in. Let’s get started!”

Important changes are being implemented with regards to the school calendar, discipline policies, new schools opening, volunteer registration, English Language Learners, transportation, child nutrition and End-of-Course testing. To get the full scoop on each of these changes, please visit our SmoothStart website. Here, parents and community members will find a one-stop shop stocked with important information about registration, before and afterschool care, school supply lists, and much more.
