Three high schools honored for 100 percent graduation rate

Hillside New Tech High, J.D. Clement Early College High, and Southern School of Engineering were honored by State Superintendent June Atkinson on Monday, Sept. 23 for achieving a 100 percent graduation rate in 2012-13. Representatives from high-performing schools across North Carolina joined Atkinson at an awards luncheon in Durham. On hand were principals Pauletta Thompson, Gloria Woods-Weeks, and John Rollack; DPS Board of Education Chair Heidi Carter; and Jim Key, area superintendent for high schools.

 

The Durham Public Schools graduation rate has risen by ten percentage points in the last four years, reaching the district's strategic plan target of 80 percent one year ahead of schedule. In 2012-13, 1,944 students graduated with 81 percent planning to move on to higher education.
