Magnet and Student Assignment Proposal
TThe Board of Education is seeking input on magnet programs and student assignment
With the opening of the new Lucas Middle School in 2012-13, members of the Board of Education are taking a comprehensive look at magnet programs and student assignment. They will consider a proposal that has the potential to bring positive changes to education in Durham on November 16 at a Special Board Work Session. The meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on Channel 4 and streamed on this Web site.
The Board of Education would like your input. The proposal will be available online following the meeting. You will see a link on the homepage to a Student Assignment page that includes maps and other important information along with an input box for your suggestions and feedback.
Additionally, the Board will hold a series of three public input sessions. Please plan to attend one of the following:
- Thursday, December 1 at Riverside High, 6:30 p.m.
- Monday, December 5 at Jordan High, 6:30 p.m.
- Thursday, December 8 at Southern High, 6:30 p.m.
The Board will then act on the proposal at its December 15 meeting. The Magnet Fair will be held Saturday, January 21 at Hillside High School. The Elementary Magnet Fair will be from 9 a.m. to 12 noon followed by the Middle and High School Fair from 2-5 p.m.
