State of Durham's Children
Former North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt speaks with Durham Public Schools Superintendent Carl Harris just before making an impassioned plea to the Durham business community to become more involved in providing Durham’s youth with the resources they must have to achieve in school and in life.
Governor Hunt visited Durham to address more than 200 business people at the State of Durham’s Children event at the American Tobacco Complex on September 23. The event, hosted by Durham Public Schools, the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce and Durham’s Partnership for Children, was to inform the business community of the progress being made in public education as well as preparation for children age 0 to 5 to enter school.
It was also an opportunity to remind businesses that their participation is critical to the successful futures of our young people. There are many ways to get involved as a business person interested in the success of students. Providing resources, volunteering and allowing employees to volunteer are among many different ways that businesses can play an active role in a healthy economic future.
