Special Legislative Agenda Press Conference

Multiple organizations gather at podium to deliver unified message

The Durham Public Schools Board of Education publicly released its legislative agenda at a special press conference on Wednesday, May 23. The event took place at Fayetteville Street Elementary.

Members of the Board were joined by leaders of over 20 local organizations to present a unified voice to lawmakers and concerned citizens. Guest speakers included Michael Page (Durham County Commissioner), Terri Bell (Durham Council of PTAs) and DeWarren Langley (Partners for Youth).

The 2012 Legislative Agenda includes 24 specific requests across the following five categories:

-    Increase State Funding
-    Support Teaching and Learning
-    Improve Charter School Legislation
-    Support NC Teachers
-    Impact Federal Issues
