Merrick-Moore computer giveaway

Grant awards free computers to students and families

Nearly eighty students at Merrick-Moore received free home computers as part of an education grant from a local non-profit.

The third, fourth, and fifth grade computer recipients were chosen based on a take-home survey which helped to identify their technology needs outside of the classroom.

Maureen Mcauley, Merrick-Moore’s technology facilitator, says being chosen to receive the free computers is exciting for both students and staff . The computer giveaway was made possible by Kramden Institute, a non-profit located in Research Triangle Park which is dedicated to helping economically disadvantaged students to cross the digital divide.

Each student’s computer is outfitted with Microsoft Office, math software, and virus protection.  Students and their parents also received instructions on how to connect their computers and basic user tools before taking them home.
