Lucas Middle to open in August 2012
Lucas Middle School will open as a traditional school in August 2012
At its December 15 meeting, the DPS Board of Education voted to open Lucas Middle as a traditional (non-magnet) school. Located on Snow Hill Road in the northern portion of Durham County, Lucas will open to sixth- and seventh-graders in August 2012. Eighth-graders will be added the following year. The Board took action impacting two other middle schools at the same meeting. It was decided that in 2012-13 W.G. Pearson Middle will serve only seventh- and eighth-graders while Chewning Middle will only serve eighth-graders.
Other portions of the original Student Assignment/Magnet Proposal were removed from the December 15 agenda in order to allow Board members more time for study and discussion.
