DPS announces winner of Get Involved! Award

Mangum Elementary volunteer is recognized for impact on students and families

As part of American Education Week, November 14-18, Andrea Miele, a volunteer at Mangum Elementary, has been named winner of the DPS Get Involved! Award.  Ms. Miele was recognized today by Superintendent Eric J. Becoats at a surprise visit to Mangum Elementary.  Dr. Becoats presented her with a plaque and certificate.  The district received 17 nominations for the award from school staff and community members.

Ms. Miele was nominated by Mangum Elementary staff members Kevin McKee and Amy Clemens who stated, “Ms. Miele has had unbelievable impact on so many students and parents!”
Ms. Miele has volunteered an average of 10 hours per week for approximately five years. She has served in multiple capacities:

  • Media center volunteer and book fair assistant
  • Assist fifth-grade AIG students in all aspects (including web page development) of hosting the 1st annual Mangum 5K fundraiser
  • Member of Mangum Counseling Advisory Board – data collection and curriculum development
  • Proctor for End-of-Grade and English as a Second Language testing
  • Volunteer teaching assistant in multiple classrooms
  • Small group tutor – this year with second-graders on basic math and fifth-graders on reading and writing strategies
