Holton Career and Resource Center opens exciting new program

Durham Public Schools is pleased to announce the opening of a Cosmetology program at Holton Career and Resource Center. The program will serve approximately 70-75 students, primarily juniors and seniors, representing all DPS high schools.

Students will attend their base high schools for their core classes. They will then commute to Holton each day for their career class. Soon, students will be ready to put their education into practice by offering their services to members of the community. They will learn skills in the following areas: salon stylist, hair color specialist, makeup artist, day spa specialist, nail technician, cosmetic chemist, wig specialist, skin care specialist and salon owner.

The program has strict guidelines such as the necessary 1,500 hours of theory and practical training, mastery of Cosmetology requirements with a grade of 80 or higher, and adherence to a code of conduct mandating appropriate behavior, attire, and attendance. Additionally, all students must meet Durham Public Schools and State Board of Cosmetic Arts requirements before they can take the State Board Examination.
