Congratulations to Hillside New Tech!

New Tech Network designates Hillside New Tech as demonstration site

The New Tech Network has designated Hillside New Tech as an NTN Demonstration Site for the school year 2011-2012. This designation acknowledges the school’s high level of implementation of key components of the New Tech model including project-based learning, teaching and assessing 21st Century skills, technology use in the classroom, and the unique culture that empowers students. As an NTN Demonstration Site, Hillside New Tech has become a valuable asset to the growing network of schools who are committed to reinventing teaching and learning.

“We are very pleased to be an official demonstration site,” said Principal William Logan. “Our staff and students have worked diligently to build our school’s stellar reputation while continuing the pursuit of excellence.”

The cornerstone of New Tech High is project-based learning. Instead of handing out daily assignments, teachers assign periodic projects with different components. Components may include a written essay and a digital project such as a Website, PowerPoint presentation, or photo essay. Students are asked to present their work orally to their classmates, teachers, community and business leaders, and parents. Students work on these projects either individually, with a partner, or in a group.

The school serves 100 students in each grade level. Its small setting offers individualized attention and a technology-rich environment. Every student is provided with a computer.
