Board Chair Minnie Forte-Brown Honored For Service

Order of the Long Leaf Pine presented by State Representative Larry Hall to DPS Board Chair Minnie Forte-Brown

Congratulations to DPS Board Chair Minnie Forte-Brown! She received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of the most prestigious awards given by the Governor for individuals with a proven record of service to the state, on Thursday September 22 at the Board of Education meeting.

The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, created in 1965, is an honor that is granted only in North Carolina. The award is named for the Longleaf Pine, the official state tree of North Carolina. Guidelines for the award recipients include contributions to their respective communities, extra effort in their careers and many years of service to their organizations. The award is most often presented when a person retires.

Ms. Forte-Brown recently retired from her long-time teaching position with North Carolina Central University and continues to serve on numerous boards and committees – both local and national in scope – including serving as Chair of the Durham Public Schools Board of Education.
