Blues in the Schools

They were singing the blues at Shepard Middle School on September 18 in a good way!  The blues group MSG The Acoustic-Blues Trio performed for sixth-graders at the school as part of the Blues in the Schools program.

The St. Josephs Historic Foundation sponsored Blues in the Schools, through which blues artists spend time with Durham Public Schools students during the week leading up to the Bull Durham Blues Festival.  In addition to top-rate blues bands performing for students, they also conducted workshops in several DPS schools. This is the programs 11th year.

The 21st Annual Bull Durham Blues Festival is being held this weekend, September 18-20, at the Durham Baseball Athletic Park.  The Festival operates a KIDSZONE on Friday and Saturday, with blues artist Wsir Johnson entertaining kids from 6 to 9 pm both evenings.

Durham Public Schools reflects the city of Durham in its thriving arts programs.  Research regularly shows that students who participate in the arts perform better in the classroom.  We encourage parents to develop their childrens interests in the arts and music.
