Art Spectrum at Sandy Ridge

Sandy Ridge Elementary School Art Teacher, Linda Dimmick, had an idea to help her students take advantage of their surroundings.  Using a native North Carolina tree from their campus as a model, the 4th graders created an art project that combined science, research, and several art disciplines that would represent North Carolina wildlife.

The students researched to help them create replicas of the North Carolina tree and the wildlife that lives on and near it.  This helped them learn about the habitat and helped them make the statues look realistic.

Students created birds, butterflies, snakes, bugs, rabbits, and a grey wolf and worked with clay, paint, wire, wood, and paper-mache. The tree and wildlife will be a work of art for the school the school to display.
