Algebra Summit
The second annual Triangle High Five Algebra Summit took place on Wednesday, August 10. The event was hosted by SAS for middle and high school Algebra 1 teachers. DPS was well-represented as 62 staff members from 17 different schools participated – including 11 principals and Superintendent Eric Becoats. DPS is continuously seeking ways to encourage more students to take Algebra and to provide the world-class instruction needed for them to be successful.
The Summit was designed in response to a desire to support teacher content knowledge and to close the gap between the number of students enrolled in Algebra 1 at the middle grades versus the number of students the Education Value-Added Assessment System (EVAAS) data predicted to be ready.
This year’s presenter was Cathy Seeley, former president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). Sessions focused on technology, assessment, differentiation, student engagement and the Common Core curriculum.
