Student Success Stories
Morgan McKinney, a senior at Northern High School, was awarded
the Bob Jamieson Athletic Training Student Aide Award. The award was
presented by the North Carolina Athletic Trainers’ Association at a
reception in Clemmons, North Carolina. Athletic Training Aides from
across the state were eligible for consideration.
Southern High School celebrated with wrestler Teshaun Johnson who
won the 4-A state championship in the 189 pound division. Teshaun was
the first Spartan to win a state title since 1992. After watching his
2-1 lead turn into a 2-2 tie with 50 seconds left, Johnson went into
overtime and ended the match with three back points for an inspiring 5-2
victory.
Rasika Rajagopalan, a senior at Jordan High School, raised $2,500
and collected more than 300 pairs of eyeglasses at a violin concert she
hosted to support “Project Spirit Sight.” Rasika, who struggled with
vision problems for most of her life, worked with Avarind Eye Hospital
and the local Lion’s Club to sponsor two “eye camps” in rural India.
Nine hundred needy villagers were screened for eye problems, given
glasses, or had cataract surgery if necessary.
