About
Looking for creative designers to help Durham Public Schools to develop the next generation of web interface for our parents, staff, community and students. Please fill out the form and register to be one of the teams that competes for a 4,000$ prize for the winning homepage design.
How does it work?
Five local Durham area teams will be selected to attend a 6 hour camp on Saturday, October 20th, 2012 at the Staff Development Center. The design teams will be meeting with DPS leadership, parents, community members and technical staff to gauge the design that best represents the district and enhances the user experience.
Each team will be given access to seven years of Google Analytics to look for visitor paths, popular pages, bounce rates and device utilization in order to balance aesthetics against compatibility and business needs. Some Knowledge of content management systems would be helpful but not required. This is a design exercise only. The winning design will be give to our implementation team to add the design to our site's template library.
Once you have submitted a request to attend you will be contacted for a list of materials to indicate you are qualified to participate. Each team will be evaluated with the same criteria and five teams will be chosen to compete. The criteria include residence of the business in Durham North Carolina, an online portfolio and demonstrated competency in user-centered design principles.
The good part!
The winner will be chosen the following week by a meeting of the community attendees you will be working with on Saturday. Each attendee will vote on a winner. That winner will be contacted and presented with a check for $4,000.00 from DPS. DPS will then own all intellectual rights to the submission. The work must be your own original ideas. Any copyright infringement will not be tolerated.
