DPS “Get Involved” Award
The “Get Involved” award will be given each semester to a Durham Public Schools volunteer who has truly made an impact on the district. Volunteers will be nominated by community members. The winner will be chosen by the DPS Volunteer Office from that pool of nominees.
Volunteer Qualifications:
Any individual or organization that has devoted time to DPS and made a significant impact on the district, whether that is through academics, beautification, mentoring, assisting teachers, leading a program or other volunteer activities.
Nominator Qualifications:
Any individual in the DPS network (student, teacher, parent, community member, volunteer coordinator, etc.).
Judges and Judging Criteria:
The award will be judged primarily by the District Volunteer Office and other designated Durham Public Schools staff members.
Nominees will be judged on the following:
- Time invested—While there is no minimum time requirement, the time commitment of nominees will be considered
- Role of the nominee—Judges will examine the nominee’s role – For example, is he or she the leader of a program or project?
- Type of activity and level of impact—The impact of the volunteer on Durham Public Schools is critical to this award and the most important criteria. While the impact does not have to be academic, judges will look at how much the volunteer has added to the academic preparation of students.
