Back to School

Welcome back! The 2016-17 school year is quickly approaching.  The biggest change this year is school start and end times.  Please make sure to click on the “New Bell Schedules” link on the left to make sure you have the correct start time for your child's school.

Please register your child for school before the first day. If your child is currently enrolled in Durham Public Schools, you do not need to register him or her. However, if you’re new to Durham, have moved or have a rising kindergartner, you do need to register if you haven’t already. Please visit the enrollment section of the website for all the pertinent information.

The icons below will direct you to additional information needed for the first day of school.  To get current school supply lists and open house information please visit your school’s website.  You can get there quickly by clicking the school icon.

Vaccinations

If your child is entering Durham Public Schools, he or she will need to be up to date on Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis), polio, MMR (measles, mumps and rubella), Haemophilus influenza, hepatitis B and varicella immunizations.

Rising seventh graders are required to receive the MCV (meningococcal conjugate vaccine) and a Tdap booster shot if the students were not already vaccinated in sixth grade.

By state law, all North Carolina schools are required to monitor our students’ immunization records; only valid medical and bona fide religious exemptions to immunization are accepted in North Carolina. Without proof of immunizations within 30 days of enrollment, principals are required to suspend students from school until they have received the required vaccinations.

Talk with your child’s health care provider about these vaccines; this is also a great opportunity for a yearly checkup. You may also obtain these immunizations at the Healthy Futures Durham Schools clinics open through the summer. To find a location convenient to you, please visit www.dconc.gov/chapp.
