About the Superintendent’s Business Advisory Council

The Superintendent’s Business Advisory Council was formed in 2006.  The goal of this council is to facilitate partnerships between local businesses and the school district.  Local businesses have unique roles in society that enable them to support the education system in influential ways.

The Business Advisory Council not only serves by providing insight in decision making, but also serves by providing Durham Public Schools students with enriching opportunities and resources.  Many of the programs that Durham Public Schools offers are greatly supported by partnerships with local businesses.

Some of the businesses involved are Duke Health Systems, GlaxoSmithKline, and IBM.  Partnerships are not limited to big companies, though!  Smaller businesses have also proven invaluable to Durham Public Schools.  The Business Advisory Council seeks to further the relationship between the local community and local schools on every level.  This portal is a great way to start involvement.  Most, if not all, of the tangible needs of these schools can be met if local businesses get involved!
