Edible Garden
Students at George Watts Elementary Montessori School are realizing the fruits of their labor while gaining a greater understanding and appreciation of where food comes from. Last spring students started a garden with fruits, vegetables, herbs and other kinds of foods, right in the schoolyard.
They started with seedlings in containers, then transplanted them into the ground. Then, shortly before winter break, the students harvested what they had grown and invited local chef Mark Day to transform their work into delicious and nutritious meals for them.
In addition to Day, partners in this effort included local landscapers, Bountiful Backyards, Burt's Bees and Durham Area Designers.
Please take a moment to witness a fantastic learning opportunity in DPS!
