Look Who’s Reading Now!

With about five weeks of summer break left for students on the traditional schools calendar, Durham Public Schools hopes that parents are taking advantage of our partnership with the Durham County Library to encourage their students to read.

The library has many free activities for children focused on the theme for summer reading: Be Creative @ Your Library. Please visit the library’s special Web section for Kids at http://www.durhamcountylibrary.org/kids.php

It’s also important to find the correct reading level for your child.  End-of-year report cards included what is called the Lexile measure.  It helps you choose books that are at the appropriate level of difficulty.

Post a photo of your child reading this summer and find out more information at www.dpsnc.net/READ

.  In the meantime, enjoy Grammy-nominated singer Nnenna Freelon introducing our Summer Reading video!
