Helping Teachers with Classroom Supplies

The Crayons2Calculators program has gathered nearly $100,000 in supplies for Durham Public Schools teachers since its inception three years ago. That’s when recent University of North Carolina graduate Nick Anderson and a friend visited an elementary school and discovered that some teachers were short on supplies.

Anderson and his friend started raising funds to buy classroom supplies in bulk and delivering them to schools in the trunk of his car. Students from both UNC and Duke University now operate the program out of a small “warehouse” on Chapel Hill Street in Downtown Durham.

They host “giveaways” several times a year, the most recent of which was held on April 21. To find out how your business or organization can be part of the next giveaway, visit crayons2calculators.org. In the meantime, enjoy DPS’ latest Partnership Video.
