No Kid Hungry Launch

You must have flash installed to see this video.

North Carolina Governor, Bev Purdue came to Lakewood to launch a partnership with Share Our Strength - a national organization that works to end childhood hunger.  The partnership aims to help end childhood hunger by connecting kids to federal food and nutrition programs.  To help the Governor kick-off the program the Smurfs were on hand along with Share Our Strength’s Bill Shore.

Lakewood Elementary was chosen as a part of a 27-school pilot program for North Carolina.  All students in the school will receive a free breakfast provided daily regardless of family income.  Many students who are eligible for free or reduced price lunch & breakfast at school do not participate in school breakfast. Reasons for the low participation include stigma, transportation & a lack of awareness of the program.  No Kid Hungry North Carolina is taking proven steps to increase school breakfast participation.

The students at Lakewood were happy to receive the good news and all their visitors.  Governor Purdue talked to the students about the importance of starting your day off with a nutritious breakfast.  This is a great partnership for Durham Public Schools & for the students at Lakewood Elementary!
