First Day of Year-Round Schools
Monday, July 18 was the first day of school for five DPS year-round schools: Easley, Holt and Pearsontown elementary schools, and Chewning and Rogers-Herr middle schools. This new school year is especially exciting because of the concentrated focus on student assessment data and assessment-based instructional planning.
Over 40 buses hit the streets, most serving two year-round schools. Maintenance and child nutrition services staff worked hard and teachers were greeting their students and parents with smiles – all in an effort to ensure students enjoy a smooth transition to the 2011-12 school year.
Durham Public Schools is requesting our community motorists be mindful that buses will be on the road and that drivers remember to adhere to school zone signs, speed limits and bus stop signals.
