Dr. Becoats' First Day – School Visits
Dr. Eric J. Becoats hit the ground running after being sworn in as Superintendent of Durham Public Schools on July 1. He wanted to spend his first day as Superintendent in schools, so he visited several schools that are operating various types of educational support programs. These included a summer camp at Fayetteville Street Elementary School; a summer leadership program at Northern High; a meeting for Connected by 25, which is a community effort to ensure young people are in college, vocational school or working by the age of 25; and the Restoration Institute for Leaders, also a dropout prevention program, at Southern High. Sounds like a full day, but it didn’t end there. Dr. Becoats attended his first official Board of Education meeting, where new board members Natalie Beyer and Nancy Cox, along with returning board members Pastor Fredrick Davis and Omega Curtis-Parker were sworn in for this term.
