Assessment for Learning

You must have flash installed to see this video.

You may or may not have noticed that teachers are doing things a little bit differently this year.  As part of the Strategic Plan DPS has begun to use an Assessment for Learning model, or AFL, to improve student achievement at all levels and across all content areas.  There are six strategies associated with the plan.  One of which is the achievement series strategy, which gives teachers access to data from the local assessments.

Teachers at C.C. Spaulding gathered on an early release Professional Learning Community day to meet and gain insight into the new AFL model.  The teachers played a game of Family Feud to brush up on their knowledge of AFL.  They also met within their grade levels to look at how their students had performed on previous assessments.

Every school in the district has an AFL Champion team.  These teams are made up of at least 3 members who participated in a special summer training session and they are in charge of leading the teachers within their school in the implementation of the AFL model.  We can’t wait to see the great strides our schools will make in student achievement this year.  Make sure to stay tuned to Channel 4 for more upcoming information about Assessments for Learning!
