Small High Schools
DPS offers a number of small high school options that feature smaller class sizes and focused instruction.
The Josephine D. Clement Early College High School and the Middle College High School at Durham Technical Community College both offer opportunities to earn college credit.
The Performance Learning Center at Northgate Mall offers students the opportunity for online learning with internships and job shadowing in a unique setting. It features small classes where students work online at their own pace.
The City of Medicine Academy offers specialized instruction for students who are interested in careers in the field of health sciences or medicine. Students have the opportunity for job-shadowing and internships at local hospitals.
Hillside New Tech High uses a technology-rich environment to engage students in learning. Students spend instructional time on significant projects that use real-world issues to deliver academic content.
Southern School of Engineering features courses in engineering designed in conjunction with Duke University and North Carolina Central University. These schools are available only to those students who live in the traditional Hillside and Southern districts.
The Holton Career and Resource Center gives high school students opportunities to participate in workplace training that will prepare them for jobs and careers. They attend their assigned high schools in the morning and Holton in the afternoon. Students must register through their high school guidance counselor.
