Business Community Partnerships

Durham Public Schools is very fortunate to enjoy a substantial level of support from our business and community partners.  Scores of businesses, from small to corporate, have established partnerships with our schools.

They provide monetary support as well as volunteers, and in many cases establish ongoing programs to assist in the instructional process.  Employees might sometimes step in to teach classes on specific subjects or serve as tutors.  And some of our businesses offer internship and job-shadowing opportunities.

In addition, Duke University and North Carolina Central University provide major in-kind donations along with hundreds of employees who work as tutors and volunteers for special events and projects.

The Superintendent’s Business Advisory Council comprises some 40 representatives from local businesses who advise the Superintendent on what the future work force will look like, what types of K-12 preparation are needed, and suggestions for supporting the school system’s efforts.
