6425 -REDUCED IDLING OF SYSTEM-OPERATED VEHICLES
In the interest of reducing excessive exhaust emissions and conserving fuel and financial resources, it is the policy of the Durham Public Schools Board of Education to reduce unnecessary idling of school buses and other vehicles operated by the Durham Public Schools. Drivers shall observe the following restrictions on the use of system-operated vehicles:
1. All unnecessary idling of school buses, activity buses, maintenance vehicles and other system-operated vehicles is prohibited.
2. School buses, activity buses, maintenance vehicles and other system-operated vehicles may not be warmed up for longer than five minutes, except under extraordinary circumstances.
The Superintendent or designee may develop regulations and procedures for the implementation of this policy.
